Job summary

Astreya is seeking a Field Technician I to support data center locations and POPs, coordinating with network teams and local vendors for installation, repair and maintenance. The role requires experience with rack and stack configurations and travel across locations.

The ideal candidate will have an AA or equivalent, knowledge of telecom cabling, DWDM, IP switches, and testing tools such as OTDRs, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, and 0–2 years’ related experience or training.
• Knowledge of data center and POP infrastructure, including OSP/ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, power systems, and racks/cabinets.
• Familiarity with telecom/network equipment (DWDM, backbone routers, IP switches) and optical/digital infrastructure.
• Understanding of splicing and manhole/vault environments.
• Knowledge of telecom testing equipment from OTDRs to meters and testing across SONET/Ethernet.
• Knowledge of testing standards for length, mapping, BER, power, delay, loss, dispersion.
• Knowledge of state/local regulatory standards and permitting requirements.
• Ability to work with LECs, landlords, electricians, and other techs.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with spreadsheets, workflow and project management software.
• Understanding of using a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high quality standards in all data center locations and POPs.
• Assist with physical installation, repair, maintenance and testing with meticulous attention to quality.
• Assist in card adds or replacements, software upgrades, and associated testing.
• Suggest process improvements to enhance asset quality and efficiency.
• Provide site survey support for OSP/ISP projects and large space/power deployments.
• Perform site audits and reconcile data with Network Surveillance and other groups.
• Coordinate with local vendors to ensure MOPs and standards compliance and cleanliness.
• Meet with LEC and other technicians to enable timely installation/maintenance.
• Perform site surveys for network builds, augments or decommissions.
• Coordinate site access and equipment staging; perform other duties as required.
