Job summary

Navy Region Southwest Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) seeks a Child and Youth Program (CYP) Leader to provide specialized developmental care for children aged 6 weeks to 18 years across CYPs. The role includes mentoring CY Program Assistants and translating training into practice, with emphasis on safety, curriculum, and compliance.

The CYP Leader will plan activities, supervise staff, and maintain indoor/outdoor environments while ensuring DoD policies and accreditation standards are met.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programs for children and youth 6 weeks to 18 years.
• Knowledge of child and youth development principles and practices.
• Skills to apply laws on child abuse detection and prevention.
• Ability to understand interests and motivation of individuals/groups in CYP.
• Skill in program planning, organizing, and staff scheduling.
• Ability to lead, mentor, and guide CY Program staff.
• Ability to train employees on safety and health topics.
• English communication skills, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

• Mentor CY Program Assistants and translate training into practice.
• Plan activities meeting physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs.
• Prepare and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials.
• Foster positive interactions among children, youth, and adults.
• Provide care, supervision, and safety oversight per DoD policies.
• Communicate professionally with parents and staff.
• Observe progress and assist with developmental assessments.
• Ensure DoD certification compliance and program standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
