Job Summary

Responsible for responding to patient inquiries and resolving patient account problems to ensure a positive customer experience. The Customer Service Specialist uses professional communication skills to maintain patient goodwill and ensure timely collection of receivables, typically reporting to the Manager of Patient Business Services.

Job Description

Desired Skill Sets:

  • Experience in a call center environment
  • High volume call center experience
  • Healthcare experience preferred
  • Epic system experience highly preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • Four (4) years of customer service experience in healthcare settings
  • Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle operations
  • Effective listening, reading, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills for internal and external communication
  • Good typing and computer navigation skills
  • Bilingual skills preferred

Principal Accountabilities

  • Respond courteously to high-volume calls and emails regarding account inquiries
  • Accurately analyze patient accounts for errors and credits
  • Resolve account issues and document communications
  • Establish financial arrangements for outstanding revenues
  • Analyze accounts for adjustments and re-bills as needed
  • Ensure billing complies with regulatory guidelines
  • Prioritize and work accounts to obtain prompt payment
  • Escalate problematic accounts and identify risks
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise independent judgment
  • Adhere to safety policies and organizational standards
  • Support professional growth and serve as a resource to staff
  • Model Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing compassionate and efficient care
  • Perform other duties as assigned
