We are seeking dedicated individuals to join us as full-time, on-site team members at our new, state-of-the-art factory located in the thriving city of DeSoto, Kansas.

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated analyst with laboratory experience to join our team at Panasonic Energy Corporation of North America (PECNA). This Customer Quality Technician - Level 5 will focus on completing routine battery tests, evaluating and reporting results, managing test equipment, and collaborating with stakeholders for the world's largest lithium-ion battery initiative. The role involves analyzing test results, identifying trends, communicating findings, maintaining laboratory equipment, developing SOPs, and implementing corrective actions.

Essential Duties:

  • Conduct routine performance, safety, and reliability testing on lithium-ion cells according to specifications and procedures, ensuring safety and accuracy.
  • Maintain, evaluate, and develop SOPs for handling, testing, storage, and disposal of lithium-ion batteries.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment such as cell chargers/dischargers, impact and drop testers, vibration testers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Analyze test results using statistical methods to identify trends.
  • Document, communicate, and report results clearly in technical and layman's terms.
  • Ensure laboratory cleanliness and compliance with 6S standards.
  • Investigate failure modes and root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in training laboratory technicians.
  • Troubleshoot routine issues and help others resolve problems.
  • Lead containment actions and treat nonconforming products.
  • Communicate with organizational levels to resolve quality issues.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects to enhance product quality and reduce defects.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

Wearing PPE such as Tyvek suits, safety shoes, gloves, glasses, face masks, and hazmat suits with respirators is required to ensure safety. Respirator fit tests will be conducted as needed.

Qualifications

Requirements - Education:

  • Required: High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Associate’s degree or two years of college in sciences or engineering

Essential Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 years relevant experience
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and adapt quickly
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in documenting test results and inspection findings
  • Ability to perform basic statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of metrology and measurement techniques
  • Proficiency in technical inspection processes
  • Knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001, IATF 16949) and regulations (UL, CE, RoHS)
  • Willingness to learn organizational processes
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of related experience
  • Experience with lithium-ion cell testing or manufacturing
  • Six-sigma Green Belt or similar
  • Understanding of PECNA HPC
  • Experience with data processing software and dashboards (LIMS, Power BI, Foundry)
  • Alignment with Panasonic’s core principles

Physical Demands:

Activities include sitting (10%), walking (40%), standing (40%), lifting (10%). Occasional lifting of up to 35 lbs. may be required.
