Job summary

Cape Fear Community College is seeking an Academic Advisor within the Academic Advising Center to support Career and Technical Education students. The role involves academic planning, course registration, and guiding students through CFCC policies and program options.

You will collaborate with CTE faculty and staff across campus to address individual and group advising needs, while embodying radical hospitality and a welcoming environment for all students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• One year of experience working with students in a community college or university setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to student-centered service and radical hospitality.

Responsibilities

• Guide CTE students in exploring programs and identifying the best educational pathway based on career interests, goals and prior learning.
• Provide cross-divisional advising between Curriculum and Continuing Education and explain degree, diploma, certificate, credential options.
• Develop knowledge of CTE programs to ensure accurate program-specific advising.
• Deliver exceptional customer service with a welcoming, student-centered approach.
• Assist students with course registration and navigating Self-Service and other systems.
• Offer information on academic processes, deadlines, and institutional requirements.
• Advise on degree, diploma, and certificate requirements and articulation to four-year institutions.
• Develop group advising sessions with CTE faculty advisors.
• Serve as a student advocate to support success and persistence.
