Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Liquid Systems Responsible Engineer with cryogenic fluids experience to support cryogenic propellant management hardware. You will contribute to requirements, design reviews, supplier coordination, and verification, while also shaping manufacturing processes, DFMs/DFAs, and shop-floor documentation.

This role blends hardware support with manufacturing engineering across production phases. Based in California, the position involves travel up to 25% and relocation as needed.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in aerospace/mechanical/manufacturing engineering, physics, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years in cryogenic fluids and mechanical systems, or in manufacturing/industrial/process engineering.
  • Experience supporting development, integration, or certification of aerospace systems for flight.
  • Hands-on with fluid/gas components: valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, instrumentation.
  • Experience contributing to DFM/DFA input on hardware designs and translating requirements into manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Cryogenic Fluid Management techniques and technologies.
  • Ability to create clear English-language work instructions and manufacturing documentation.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments spanning design support and shop floor execution.

Responsibilities

  • Support hardware ownership of cryogenic propellant management components, contributing to requirements, design, and verification.
  • Work on defined subsystems within the Zero-g Propellant Management IPT; escalate complex problems to senior engineers.
  • Support trade studies, component design/integration, first-order analysis, and supplier interface for fluid hardware.
  • Track procurements and hardware dependencies to support delivery schedules.
  • Participate in internal and external technical exchange meetings on cryogenic hardware development.
  • Support DFM/DFA/DFT reviews and flag manufacturability concerns during design phases.
  • Translate engineering requirements into manufacturing processes for cryogenic fluid hardware (fabrication, cleaning, welding/brazing, assembly, testing).
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation: work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, inspection plans.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action for manufacturing non-conformances; contribute to MRB dispositions.
  • Evaluate manufacturing methods for cryogenic fluid systems and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation activities for new tooling/lines.
  • Ensure processes align with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to identify efficiency and cost-saving opportunities.
