Job summary

BRC in New York seeks a Community Technician to provide a consistent, trusted presence for individuals experiencing homelessness, often during crises or transitions. This hands-on, frontline role supports safety and well-being on-site.

Full-time, 37.5 hours/week with a 24/7 program and mandatory overtime; no prior shelter experience required, but requires strong judgment, empathy, and calm under pressure. Training and certifications provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and empathy.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed approaches.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises.
• Screen residents and visitors with dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
