Job summary

YWCA Greater Harrisburg is seeking a compassionate Part-Time On-Call Crisis Advocate to support individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence. The role blends remote and on-site duties, requiring rapid 30-minute response to in-person needs, including overnight coverage from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

with a minimum of 3 shifts weekly. Compensation includes a $150 on-call shift stipend ($175 on holidays) plus $21.00 per hour for actual time worked. A two-week in-person training is mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, criminal justice or related field, or Associate’s Degree with 2 years of relevant work history.
  • Experience in advocacy, social work or other supportive services preferred.
  • Must have reliable vehicle and reside within 30 minutes of Harrisburg.
  • FBI, Child Abuse, and State Police Clearances required.

Responsibilities

  • Answer the 24-hour hotline and provide comprehensive service support.
  • Respond to hospitals for domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking victims.
  • Conduct shelter assessments, intakes and orientations for survivors.
  • Assist with safety planning and rights information.
  • Offer crisis intervention and emotional support using trauma-informed practices.
  • Coordinate referrals to legal, medical and housing services.
  • Document interactions and referrals per agency policies.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement and medical professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow ethical and legal guidelines.
  • Attend trainings and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Job description

The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is seeking a compassionate, dependable Part-Time On-Call Crisis Advocate to provide life-changing support to individuals impacted by domestic and sexual violence.

As an On-Call Crisis Advocate, you will be a vital source of hope and stability during times of crisis. You'll provide hotline support, crisis intervention, safety planning, emergency shelter intake, legal and medical accompaniments, assistance with Protection From Abuse orders, advocacy, and connections to community resources. Position Details:
  • Position is a hybrid position working from home but with a mandatory ability to respond to the YWCA, hospital, or police department within 30 minutes of receiving a request for in-person services.
  • Covers the overnight shift from 12:00 a.m. – 8 a.m. with a minimum requirement of at least 3 shifts per week; including Friday and Saturday overnights.
  • Must be available to respond to calls and provide in-person support that may extend beyond 8:00 a.m. if engaged in a response with a survivor.
  • Must be able to attend a mandatory 2-week in-person training program Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Compensation: $150 stipend per on-call shift ($175 for holidays), plus the hourly rate of $21.00/hr. for actual time worked.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Answering the 24-hour hotline and providing comprehensive service support
  • Responding to hospitals for incoming domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking victims
  • Conducting shelter assessments, intakes, and shelter orientations for survivors
  • Assisting with safety planning and providing information about rights and available services
  • Offering crisis intervention and emotional support to survivors and their non-offending family members using trauma-informed practices
  • Coordinating and providing referrals to community resources, including legal, medical, and housing services
  • Documenting all client interactions, services provided, and referrals made and submitting service documentation in accordance with agency policies and standards
  • Collaborating with law enforcement, medical professionals, and other community partners to ensure comprehensive care for victims
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to all ethical and legal guidelines and protocols
  • Attending regular trainings and meetings to stay current on best practices and agency updates
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, criminal justice or related field, or Associate’s Degree with 2 years of relevant work history
  • Previous experience in providing advocacy, social work, human services, or other supportive services
  • Must have a reliable vehicle for travel within Dauphin and Perry Counties with valid driver’s license
  • Must reside within 30 minutes of the YWCA Greater Harrisburg
  • FBI, Child Abuse, and State Police Clearances
