Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT card within 90 days.
  • First-Aid and CPR certifications.
  • English reading, writing, and speaking required.
  • Willingness to travel >50%.
  • Physically demanding outdoor work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and coaching to the crew to achieve production goals.
  • Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with company, industry, OSHA, and customer requirements.
  • Allocate and prioritize job-site tasks under direction of the General Foreperson.
  • Conduct safety training, pre-job briefings, crew assignments, and employee coaching.
  • Apply herbicides to stumps and brush and maintain application records.
  • Obtain property-owner permission for tree trimming, removal, and herbicide application.
  • Trim, remove, and fell trees using climbing equipment, aerial lift trucks, safety belts, climbing lines, ladders, saws, pruners, and related tools.
  • Inspect work areas for hazards and load manageable limbs and logs onto vehicles/equipment.
  • Repair minor property damage and escalate issues to the General Foreperson.
  • Maintain customer and public relations.
  • Maintain crew production records, timesheets, work orders, labor hours, assignments, and cost controls.
  • Interpret utility maps, drawings, and electrical-line symbols and assist with daily work-order assignments.
  • Set up traffic-control devices, direct traffic, and coordinate with property owners, customers, and emergency personnel.
  • Stage and clean up tools and equipment and maintain an orderly work area.
  • Inspect and perform routine maintenance on company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Coordinate crew response during emergencies and natural disasters, including travel outside the regular work location.
  • Drive and operate assigned vehicles and equipment, including vehicles with attached chippers or trailing units.
  • Maintain safety, employee-ownership, legal, regulatory, and company-policy compliance.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working on tree trimming or clearing crews, or successful completion of applicable skills assessments
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
  • Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's or commercial driver's license and DOT medical card, as required
  • Herbicide application certification or equivalent as required by law and company requirements
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to handle stressful situations and multitask
  • Knowledge of trees, tree identification, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques near energized conductors
  • Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1 and ANSI A300 standards
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps
  • Knowledge of OSHA electrical power standards, including 29 CFR 1910.269
  • Ability to determine nominal voltage and use insulated tools near energized parts
  • Ability to recognize poisonous plants
  • Ability to wear required PPE
  • Ability to work long hours, overtime, holidays, weekends, storm work, and call-out work
  • Knowledge and training in tree and bucket rescue
  • Ability to operate and service required tools and equipment
  • Ability to work independently and in a group
  • English reading, writing, and speaking required
  • Extensive travel required, greater than 50%
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing, lifting, carrying, and operating vehicles/equipment
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather, rugged terrain, hazardous conditions, heights, chemicals, electrical current, and moving equipment
