Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an on-site foreman to supervise ditching and drainage work, plan crews, and coordinate maintenance tasks to meet yearly goals.

You will operate and supervise equipment, enforce safety policies, and maintain daily reports. A valid driver's license is required at entry and a Class A CDL must be obtained within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Three and one-half (3.5) years of related work experience.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required on entry.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
• The physical demands involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and assists work crews, schedules, and plans work to complete ditching operations and maintenance of roads and bridges.
• Operates and supervises heavy, medium, and light equipment (e.g., dump trucks, backhoes, loaders) and performs manual labor as needed.
• Inspects work, enforces safety procedures, and ensures timely completion in accordance with guidelines.
• Compiles daily/weekly/monthly reports and enters data into HMMS; completes timesheets.
• On-call foreman for emergencies; snow/ice removal during inclement weather; performs preventive maintenance checks.
