Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a foreman to supervise ditching and road maintenance crews. You will schedule work, oversee heavy equipment operations, and ensure safety procedures and traffic controls are followed on projects across assigned areas.

Requirements include 3.5 years of related experience, a valid operator’s license at entry, and obtaining a CDL-A within 6 months. Physical duties include lifting up to 50 lbs and working outside in varying conditions.

Qualifications

• Three and a half (3.5) years of related work experience.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required on entry.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six (6) months of placement.
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing bending, stooping and lifting actions.

Responsibilities

• Supervises work crews and plans ditching, shoulder clipping, and pipe cleaning to meet yearly terrain plans.
• Operates and supervises heavy, medium, and light equipment (forklift, backhoes, dump trucks, etc.).
• Monitors safety, traffic controls, and compliance with department guidelines.
• Develops schedules and allocates staff, equipment, and materials for jobs.
• Instructs crews in proper construction methods and safety procedures.
• Inspects completed work and maintains daily/weekly/monthly reports.
