Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a shift supervisor to oversee housing unit security and inmate management under the direction of the shift lieutenant.

Responsibilities include inspections, investigations, counts, staff counseling and training, and reporting; successful candidates must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire and meet minimum education requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience required.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security assigned to housing units and custody/control of inmates.
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation compliance.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal counts.
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance of security personnel; prepare evaluations.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train staff to required standards.
• Prepare reports as needed.
