Job summary

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
• SCDC requires eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work; a degree may substitute for half of required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security assigned to housing units and inmates.
• Make routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates or security personnel.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal counts.
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance; prepare employee evaluations.
• Counsel and train subordinate staff to required standards of performance.
