Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct the actions of the security staff across medium security units. You will oversee custody and control of inmates and ensure security of buildings and public property, while maintaining OSHA and cleanliness standards.

Must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training on hire and satisfy minimum requirements including a high school diploma and supervisory experience or a related degree substitute.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience.
• A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Certification by the SCDC Training Academy within six months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
