Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks a Security Supervisor for a medium/maximum security facility. Under general supervision, you will plan, coordinate, and direct security staff, overseeing inmate custody and control across assigned units.

You will assume primary responsibility for security of all buildings and property. A high school diploma is required; a related bachelor’s degree may substitute for the experience, and you must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; a related degree may substitute for the experience.
• Experience in correctional, security, military or police work is preferred.
• Must supervise and coordinate security staff and inmate counts.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs security staff and oversees custody of inmates in assigned units.
• Assumes primary security responsibility for all buildings and public property.
• Conducts routine unit checks to ensure staff duties are performed safely and OSHA standards are met.
• Assists with inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and disputes among inmates and staff.
