Job summary

State of South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a shift supervisor to oversee security personnel assigned to housing units and manage inmate custody and control. You will supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff, conduct routine area inspections, and participate in counts and reports.

Responsibilities include investigating misconduct, counseling subordinates, and training staff to required standards. Must complete 8 weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire and obtain certification within six

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for part of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, supervise security assigned to housing units and custody of inmates.
• Make routine inspections of living areas for security, safety and sanitation.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel.
• Assist in conducting counts and supervise job performance and evaluations.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, train staff to required standards.
• Prepare reports as needed; perform duties of shift lieutenant when necessary.
