Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks a Security Supervisor to oversee housing-unit security staff and inmate custody. The role includes inspections, investigations, counts, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. Training and reporting duties are essential to maintain standards.

Successful candidate will complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training, with opportunities for advancement within the Department of Corrections. This position is based in Columbia, SC and requires on-site work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for required experience.
• Experience in correctional, security, military, or police work is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security assigned to housing units and custody of inmates.
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation compliance.
• Investigate alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel.
• Assist in formal and informal counts.
• Evaluate performance and conduct of security personnel; prepare evaluations.
• Counsel and train subordinate staff to required standards; recommend disciplinary action.
• Prepare necessary reports and, when needed, perform Shift Lieutenant duties.
