Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a security supervisor to coordinate and direct security staff across assigned units in a medium/maximum security facility. You will oversee custody and control of inmates, ensuring safety and adherence to OSHA standards.

The role requires supervising staff, conducting routine checks, and assisting with inmate counts. You will investigate complaints and arbitrate disputes while completing basic supervisory training within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Must hold a high school diploma and have relevant security/ supervisory experience.
• A bachelor’s degree may substitute for required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff.
• Oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned unit(s).
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing duties properly and safely, and that OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
