Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections in Columbia, SC is seeking a Security Supervisor to plan, coordinate, and direct the actions of the security staff and oversee custody and control of inmates in a CSU of a medium/maximum security facility.

You will assume primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property, perform routine checks, ensure OSHA standards, and assist with inmate counts.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma and relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in CSU of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
