Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisory-level candidate to plan, coordinate and direct security staff, overseeing custody and control of inmates in a minimum-security facility. The role emphasizes safeguarding buildings and public property, with routine unit checks to ensure safety and OSHA compliance.

You'll assist with inmate counts, investigate complaints, and arbitrate disputes among inmate populations and correctional staff.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience.
• A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plans coordinate & direct the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of the inmates in a minimum-security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Make routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates count for accuracy. Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
