Job summary

The State of South Carolina, Department of Corrections, is seeking a security supervisor for a medium security facility in Columbia. You will supervise security staff, conduct inspections, and investigate violations, ensuring safety and orderly operations.

You will also oversee duty rosters, counts, and training of staff, maintain control of security keys and equipment, and prepare formal reports. A foundational background in corrections or security is required, with certification by the SCDC

Qualifications

• High school diploma and three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including one year supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for supervisory experience year-for-year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Supervises security staff at a medium security facility.
• Makes sanitation, safety and security inspections of all buildings, grounds and vehicles.
• Investigates complaints and disputes; arbitrates among inmate population and staff.
• Supervises and verifies scheduled formal counts and conducts informal counts as needed.
• Trains subordinate security staff and ensures duties are performed.
• Keeps current with administrative directives for medium security institutions.
• Maintains control of security keys, devices, and equipment across buildings and vehicles.
• Conducts security inspections and shakedowns for contraband control.
• Prepares and submits written operational and administrative reports.
• Assists Captain with duty roster, post assignments, leave approvals, and time keeping in Kronos.
