Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a supervisory security professional to lead staff, oversee inmate custody, and ensure safety across a medium security facility. You will coordinate security operations, perform routine checks, and support counts and investigations.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma with relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for required experience. Comprehensive benefits are provided to eligible employees.

Qualifications

• Supervisory or leadership experience in security or corrections.
• Ability to coordinate staff, enforce rules, and ensure safety and order.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees the security, custody, and control of inmates in a medium security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
