Job summary

State of South Carolina's Department of Corrections is seeking a security supervisor responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing security staff and overseeing custody and control of inmates in a medium/maximum security facility.

This on-site leadership role requires a high school diploma with experience; three years in correctional/security/military/police with one year supervisory; and completion of the SCDC training within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; related experience.
• Three years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work with one year supervisory.
• Degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for supervisory experience year-for-year.
• Must complete SCDC Training Academy basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct security staff and oversee custody and control of inmates in a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assume primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Make routine unit checks to ensure duties are performed safely and OSHA standards are met.
• Assist with inmate counts for accuracy and investigate complaints or disputes.
