Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a security supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct the actions of security staff and oversee custody of inmates in a medium security facility. You will also be responsible for safeguarding buildings and public property and performing routine unit checks to ensure safety and OSHA compliance.

The role requires a high school diploma with relevant experience; a related bachelor’s degree may substitute.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience required; a related bachelor's degree may substitute for experience.
• Three years of correctional, security, military, or police work with at least one year in supervision required.
• A criminal justice or related degree may substitute supervisory experience year-for-year.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct security staff and oversee inmate security and custody in a medium security facility.
• Assume primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Make routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure staff perform duties safely and OSHA standards are met.
• Assist with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigate complaints and disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
• This position will be assigned to Operations.
