Qualifications

• A high school diploma; relevant experience is required.
• A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for supervisory experience year for year.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs the actions of security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in a medium security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the units to ensure staff perform duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
