Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; relevant experience preferred.
• Three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work with supervisory experience.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience and supervisory role.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Supervises security staff at a medium security facility.
• Makes sanitation, safety and security inspections of all buildings, grounds and vehicles.
• Investigates complaints and disputes; arbitrate among inmate population and correctional staff.
• Supervises and verifies the accuracy of scheduled formal counts; conducts informal counts as needed.
• Trains subordinate security staff and ensures duties are performed.
• Keeps abreast of administrative directives pertaining to medium security institutions.
• Maintains control of security keys and equipment including building keys and vehicle keys.
• Conducts security inspections and contraband shakedowns.
• Prepares and submits written operational and administrative reports.
• Assists Captain with duty roster, post assignments, leave approvals, and timekeeping in Kronos.
