Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Correctional Security Supervisor to oversee security staff and manage inmate safety in a medium security facility. The role includes directing security, counting inmates, and ensuring OSHA-compliant conditions and property protection.

Successful candidates must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training on hire, hold a high school diploma with relevant experience, and may substitute a related bachelor's degree for the required experience.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Three years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work including one year of supervisory experience.
• Certification by the SCDC Training Academy and completion of the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
