JOB SUMMARY
The Controller provides the information and recommendations to help manage the financial performance of the operation – looking backward with accurate reporting and analysis and looking forward with forecasting and opportunity evaluation. The Controller manages accounting records and is responsible for the production of financial reports for the Pod Squad, PS Heavy Duty Parts and Kersch’s Ag Lime Business Units. The Controller ensures they are issued on time, and they fairly and accurately reflect the Business Unit’s current financial position. The Controller oversees all functions with the Accounting Team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Manage & oversee all aspects of accounting duties including but not limited to general ledger, fixed assets, inventory, billing, collections, and accounts payable
· Develop budgets and provide ongoing variance analysis for current enterprises: operating and capital expenditure budgets, including equipment trade/upgrade analysis
· Evaluate potential business opportunities with pro-forma analysis and provide recommendations
· Oversight of Food Waste tracking, including DEC 364 permit – modifications, renewal, annual reporting
· Prepare timely and accurate financial reporting to CFO (monthly, quarterly, annually)
· Ongoing monitoring of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Functions
· Manage treasury functions: cash flow management and reporting, banking information flow, monitoring lines of credit
· Prepare and distribute weekly DSI Blaze reports to staff and help staff understand reports
· Manage daily inventory tracking and reconciliation
· Work to implement processes to track KPI’s and bring process improvement to the Accounting Team
· Implement and oversee monthly/quarterly closing process for each Business Unit
· Review sales tax, 1099’s, bank records
· Establish internal controls to safeguard company assets
· Coordinate with CFO regarding tax preparation and compliance
· Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial management via processes, software, or training
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s Degree -- Accounting or equivalent experience
· 3-5 years’ experience in a relevant position required. Relevant experience would demonstrate your familiarity with analysing financial metrics and drivers, although it may have been applied in a position other than controller (e.g. banking, insurance, financial consulting, etc.)
· CPA or CMA is a plus
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards and regulations
· Demonstrated understanding of accrual and cash accounting
· Advanced Excel skills
· Experience with DSI Blaze software a plus
· Demonstrated ability to think logically and synthesize detailed information into meaningful summaries and recommendations
