Overview:

Talento Human Capital has been engaged by a leading private equity firm that is expanding an operating platform in the supply chain & distribution space, focusing on perishable goods and food. This business unit will serve as a key platform for expansion in a global industry valued at nearly $10 Trillion.

Job Summary

As a Controller, you will establish the controllership function for a new portfolio of companies. You will manage all accounting activities, focusing on integration and consolidation of acquisitions and supporting ERP system implementation. Your expertise will ensure accurate reporting, compliance, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making to support the business's growth.

This role is remote with 25% travel across business units and the portfolio. It begins as an independent contractor through TalentoHC and a management consulting firm, with potential conversion to full-time within 90 to 180 days.

Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Develop a comprehensive plan for the controllership organization to acquire and integrate companies.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to the Portfolio CFO and leadership to align with growth plans.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and processes to scale the organization.
  • Mentor and develop the accounting team, managing work allocation, training, performance, and leadership development.
  • Gain a holistic understanding of revenue, costs, and daily financial principles.
  • Collaborate with leadership to establish product-level P&Ls, ensuring accounting rigor.
Controllership
  • Oversee accounting policies, objectives, and activities to ensure operations and maximize returns.
  • Manage month-end close processes, revenue, and cost accounting.
  • Handle all tax matters across jurisdictions.
  • Enhance financial systems, processes, and controls.
  • Stay current on audit practices and legal compliance.
  • Protect assets through internal controls and insurance.
  • Partner with supply chain and operations for procurement and budgeting.
  • Lead external audits and tax engagements.
Merger & Acquisition Integration
  • Perform due diligence on acquisitions.
  • Coordinate with legal and investment teams for integration.
Special Projects

Lead projects and perform other duties as directed by investors or leadership.

Education & Experience
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Proven leadership as a Controller or similar role.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and IFRS.
  • Experience in supply chain or food & beverage distribution.
  • Strong experience with auditors, controls, and compliance.
  • Leadership in transformation initiatives.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and accounting software.
