Qualifications

• Ability to work on-site in Modesto five days per week initially.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field; CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

Compensation: $120,000 to $150,000 annually

The Opportunity

Our client is a growing, locally owned healthcare organization serving home health, hospice, and home care patients. With five operating entities, the organization needs a hands-on Controller to lead accounting and payroll, improve financial visibility, and support continued growth.

Personality fit is essential. The successful candidate will be personable, positive, flexible, and comfortable working closely with leadership in an environment where priorities can change. This person should bring strong judgment without being rigid or overly attached to one way of working.

Work Model

This position must work on‑site in the Modesto office five days per week initially, with the possibility of moving to four days per week over time. Candidates must be able to commute to or relocate to the Salida area.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead accounting and close. Maintain accurate books, consistent practices, and a timely close across five entities.
• Manage multi‑entity reporting. Oversee intercompany activity, reconciliations, eliminations, financial statements, and management reporting.
• Strengthen controls. Maintain GAAP‑compliant accounting, reliable subledgers, internal controls, and audit‑ready records.
• Oversee cash and working capital. Lead cash‑flow forecasting, banking, liquidity planning, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and collection visibility.
• Own payroll. Supervise payroll operations and controls in partnership with the payroll specialist; Paycom experience is preferred.
• Support planning. Partner with the CEO and leadership team on budgets, forecasts, major costs, and business decisions.
• Lead the team. Coach the lead accountant, accounts payable specialist, and payroll specialist while building accountability and trust.
• Partner across the business. Work closely with billing and operations, adapt processes as needed, and help finance scale with the organization.

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Enterprise.
• Treasury, cash‑flow forecasting, working‑capital, and payroll experience; Paycom is preferred.
• Experience leading and mentoring accounting staff.
• A personable, adaptable, low‑ego leadership style and the ability to work well with different personalities.
• Ability to work on‑site in Salida five days per week initially.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience; CPA is preferred.

Preferred Experience

• Healthcare, hospice, home health, home care, or another regulated service environment.
• Medicare cost reporting, payer reporting, or revenue‑cycle partnership.

Healthcare experience is helpful but not required. Candidates with strong multi‑entity accounting fundamentals and the right leadership approach are encouraged to apply.
