Job summary

Parailabs seeks experienced Consular Officers and Passport Specialists for a remote contract to help evaluate and improve AI systems on passport and citizenship topics.

You will use State Department experience to check questions and answers for accuracy on complex cases, write rubrics, and provide clear feedback. No AI development is required; domain knowledge is essential. This short-term project requires 20-30 hours per week with quick-start availability and strong written communication.

Qualifications

• Former State Department passport or consular experience.

• Knowledge of citizenship and nationality rules and passport eligibility.
• US-based and available to start quickly, 20-30 hours/week.
• Strong written communication.

Responsibilities

• Review passport and citizenship questions to ensure they resemble real applicants.
• Write rubrics defining correct, complete answers for complex cases.
• Cover minors, custody, and abroad cases in rubrics.
• Evaluate AI answers against rubrics and flag errors.
• Provide clear asynchronous written feedback to the project team.

Role Title: Consular Officer / Passport Specialist

micro1 is looking for former Consular Officers and Passport Specialists to help evaluate and improve AI systems on passport and citizenship topics. You’ll use your State Department experience to check that questions sound like real applicants and that answers are correct on complex cases. Accuracy comes first. No AI experience is needed; your domain knowledge is what matters.

Scope of Work

• Review sample passport and citizenship questions and flag any that don’t sound like what real people ask.
• Write rubrics that define a correct, complete answer for complex cases, such as lost, stolen, or damaged passports, name changes, and citizenship documentation.
• Cover situations involving minors, custody, and applicants born or living abroad in your rubrics.
• Evaluate AI-generated answers against your rubrics, flagging errors, omissions, and outdated guidance.
• Share clear written feedback with the project team, working asynchronously.

Required Qualifications

• Former State Department experience in a passport agency (Passport Specialist/Adjudicator) or consular section (Consular Officer)
• 1+ years adjudicating or advising on passport or citizenship matters
• Working knowledge of citizenship and nationality rules and passport eligibility
• US-based
• Able to start quickly and commit 20-30 hours/week
• Clear, precise writing

Nice to Have

• Experience with document fraud detection
• Experience with name change and identity documentation cases
• Experience creating guides, FAQs, or training materials
• Experience helping a diverse range of applicants, including non-English-speaking customers
