Job summary

Hensel Phelps in Southern California seeks a Safety Engineer to support the safety manager and project teams on construction projects. The role involves applying safety policies, monitoring activities, and addressing unsafe conditions in field and office settings.

You will assist with accident prevention plans, participate in inspections, and help ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1 and owner requirements. A 4-year degree is preferred and a valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• A 4-year degree is preferred.
• Occupational Safety and Health degree suggested.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Strong communication skills are essential.
• Experience with Excel-based templates, Prolog, Primavera and AutoDesk Suite is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Effectively communicate with stakeholders including staff, craft and trade partners.
• Apply safety programs and owner requirements including EM 385-1-1.
• Assist with accident prevention plan, safety tools, and crisis plans.
• Participate in the six-step quality control/safety process and follow-up inspections.
• Conduct safety audits and assist with OSHA inspections as needed.
• Assist with investigation of accidents and near-miss events.
• Monitor safety performance of the company and trade partners.
• Attend awareness and competent person level courses.
• Learn construction processes and the roles of all positions.
• Support project team in planning, monitoring activities, and correcting hazards.
