Job summary

Cooley LLP seeks a Conflicts Staff Attorney to join the Business Intake and Conflicts (Specialized Conflicts) team in a role focused on ethical compliance, risk management, and onboarding of new matters and personnel.

The position requires deep knowledge of ABA Model Rules, ability to monitor rules across jurisdictions, and strong collaboration with senior staff to manage conflicts of interest and risk on behalf of the firm.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of conflicts resolution experience or 5+ years as a practicing attorney
• JD degree
• Active member in good standing or registered in-house counsel of the bar(s) in all jurisdictions from which you regularly work, as well as the jurisdiction in which your assigned office is located, if applicable

Responsibilities

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and jurisdictional rules in states where the firm operates
• Monitor ABA and jurisdictional rules for changes and suggest policy modifications for approval
• Analyze and resolve conflicts of interest related to new business and new hires
• Coordinate with Managers, Directors, Conflict Analysts and firm attorneys to gather information for conflict determinations
• Draft and review ethical screens, conflict waivers and risk management engagement letter provisions
• Assist with administering the Firm’s client engagement terms program including review and coding of outside counsel guidelines
• Conduct research on conflicts of interest issues and corporate affiliations
• All other duties as assigned or required
