Job summary

Penn Hills School District is seeking a Computer Technician for the Information Technology Department at building level. The role reports to the Director of Technology and includes installing, maintaining, and repairing computer systems district-wide to ensure minimal downtime and productive staff.

Salary is $38,316.10 and the term is 240 days. The technician will troubleshoot networks and devices, assist with server, LAN, and peripheral maintenance, and support end users with hardware/software

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate’s Degree or technical training/certification preferred.
  • Pass a computer proficiency test covering basic knowledge, PC hardware, Windows OS, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Capable of operating/repairing computer equipment and installing software as directed.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with end users.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain computer systems and peripherals.
  • Troubleshoot and repair data communications circuits and LAN hardware.
  • Diagnose hardware/software issues and perform repairs.
  • Install/configure software as needed for district operations.
  • Manage directory services and email user accounts.
  • Provide user support and end-user training on new technologies.
  • Attend district meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Prepare written reports and network layouts as needed.
  • Transport equipment to job sites and back for repair or setup.

Job Summary

Computer Technician in the Information Technology Department at Penn Hills School District, building level. Salary: $38,316.10. Term: 240 days.

Reports To

Director of Technology.

Accountability Objective

The Computer Technician provides on‑demand technical assistance and support for all networks and computer users in the district. This includes software, hardware, and operational support to ensure minimal downtime and efficient staff productivity. Typical duties include but are not limited to installing and maintaining computer systems, testing network infrastructure equipment, and diagnosing and repairing computer, software, and network malfunctions.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, required.
  • Associate’s Degree, technical training/certification or equivalent related job experience, preferred.
  • Pass a computer proficiency test in basic computer knowledge, PC hardware, current Windows Operating System, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Possesses a level of computer proficiency that demonstrates an ability to operate/repair computer equipment and install software as directed.
  • Ability to carry out prescribed duties independently with a minimum of direction.
  • Demonstrates effective, positive, accurate and timely communication skills, both verbal and written, including technical knowledge bases, when working with end users.
  • Ability to function effectively in a calm manner under stressful situations.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new systems and technology.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters in an ethical manner.
  • Sound organizational skills and ability to recognize and change work priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Personal transportation and valid PA driver’s license required.
Performance Accountabilities
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of data communications circuits and equipment for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations.
  • Conduct fault isolation and repair of work stations throughout the district, to include file server disk subsystems, file server computers and LAN communication hardware for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations.
  • Diagnose/repair equipment including district personal computers and/or terminals using hardware and software diagnostic tools for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer and network.
  • Diagnose/repair LAN software programs for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations.
  • Install/configure software as needed for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations.
  • Install/maintain network cabling and peripherals throughout the district for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations.
  • Install and upgrade computers and peripherals throughout the district for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations including classrooms, library, computer labs and offices.
  • Install appropriate software/hardware components in the LAN system for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations.
  • Manage remote and central administrative LAN by adding/deleting users to Directory Services and email for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations.
  • Relocate computer hardware, peripherals and equipment as needed for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations.
  • Assist end users (e.g. troubleshooting software, hardware problems and user support) for the purpose of supporting them in the use of technology.
  • Attend approved seminars, webinars, workshops, district meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Orient end users for the purpose of applying new technologies and procedures and ensuring their ability to use new and/or existing software.
  • Prepare written assignments (e.g. reports, memos, letters, network layouts, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Transport a variety of items (e.g. servers, network equipment, routers, printers, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at the job site or transporting equipment for repair.
  • Adhere to all District policies and procedures concerning the use and maintenance of technology for the purpose of maintaining safe and effective district and site operations.
  • May be assigned to other buildings as needs change. Accept schedule and duty assignments required to support district activities.
  • Provide evidence or documentation of periodic updating of skills for existing/emerging technologies.
  • Troubleshoot and remedy reported hardware and software problems independently or with internal collaboration/outside vendor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Physical Demands
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, push/pull carts weighing up to 300 pounds, and climb up to an eight‑foot ladder in execution of duties.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, bend and reach to retrieve and handle materials and supplies.
  • Move fingers and hands in a repetitive manner.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly when communicating.
  • Hearing clearly.
  • Adequate vision to perform duties.
