Job Description
Job Title: Computer Technician Wage/Hour Status: Non‑Exempt
Reports to: Principal Date Revised: March 2022
Dept.: Assigned Campus
Summary
Perform on‑site technical work to install and maintain computer equipment, network and software applications throughout the district and assigned campus. Respond to work order requests by diagnosing and repairing network and computer hardware.
Qualifications / Education
- Associate's degree in a computer‑related field from an accredited college or university
- Two years of work experience installing, maintaining, and repairing computers and peripherals
- Experience working in a school district setting preferred
- Clear and valid Texas Driver’s License
Other Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of computer workstation setup (identify requirement — e.g., Novell workstation)
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications
- Strong knowledge of Internet and web‑related technology
- Ability to use hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations
- Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals
- Ability to install and maintain network cables and hardware
- Ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators and the general public
- Ability to perform duties remotely and/or on a flex schedule, upon approval by superintendent, for pandemics, natural disasters, catastrophic events, etc., subject to virtual/distance learning policies and procedures
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Technical Support
- Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade computers and peripherals, network cabling, and network peripherals throughout the district
- Relocate computer hardware, peripherals, and equipment as needed
- Provide technical assistance to users of computers, instructional equipment, and software
- Install and configure application and operating system software and upgrades
- Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of data communications circuits and equipment
- Assist with organization and distribution of technology‑based material for classroom use
Equipment Repair and Maintenance
- Diagnose and repair network connectivity and hardware issues, including printers, terminals, and personal computers
- Remove old equipment and perform data migration to new machines
- Service equipment according to established preventive maintenance schedule
- Maintain accurate updated records of preventive maintenance
Inventory
- Maintain accurate inventory of hardware, software, and other equipment and material at assigned site(s)
- Identify, request, and control the inventory of repair parts
Other
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately
- Maintain confidentiality
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance
- Participate in meetings and special events as assigned
- Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Respond to after‑hours emergencies as needed

Equipment Used
Computer, telephone, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator, hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations, personal computers and peripherals, small truck or van.
Working Conditions
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. Duties involve prolonged sitting and standing; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders. Moderate lifting and carrying up to 44 pounds; occasional heavy lifting of 45 pounds or more. Exposure to electrical hazards; irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; may be required to be on‑call 24 hours a day. Work involves frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
