Job summary

Indiana University Health System seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to provide compassionate bedside care. You will assist with meals, hydration, baths, linen changes, and mobilization, while supporting the bedside RN by taking vital signs and reporting changes promptly.

As a PCA you will use safety equipment such as gait belts and alarms, maintain cleanliness and infection control, and help keep patients comfortable and safe in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain concentration with interruptions and noise.
• Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in problem resolution.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meals, hydration, and order for meals.
• Encourage patient mobility and assist with walking.
• Assist with baths, linen changes, and gowning.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to RN or charge nurse.
• Ensure patient safety using gait belts and alarms, staying within arm's reach.
