Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support bedside care by anticipating patient needs, assisting with meals, mobility, bathing, and linens. The role includes providing clinical assistance to the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting changes promptly to ensure rapid response and safety.

Ideal candidates will have BLS certification, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of infection control, and the ability to manage a high workload in a fast-paced hospital

Qualifications

• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served.
• Requires up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Requires proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Requires ability to maintain concentration amid interruptions and variable noise levels.

Responsibilities

• Provide drinks and assist with meal ordering and consumption.
• Encourage walking and mobility to support recovery.
• Assist with baths and provide clean linens and gowns.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to the RN or charge nurse.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts and bed/chair alarms; stay within arm's reach during moves.
