Job summary

IU Health seeks a Patient Care Technician to provide exceptional bedside care, including helping with meals, mobility, drinks, baths, and linens. This role supports the bedside RN by obtaining vitals and reporting changes while prioritizing patient safety with gait belts and alarms.

The PCA will work in a fast-paced hospital environment, showing compassion and strong communication to ensure a positive patient experience and timely care delivery.

Qualifications

• Requires Basic Life Support certification or completion of IU Health PCA education program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served.
• Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to handle high levels of tension and stress while maintaining concentration.

Responsibilities

• Assist with drinks, meals, mobility (e.g., walking), baths, and providing clean linens and gowns.
• Provide clinical assistance to the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities or changes.
• Maintain patient safety using gait belts, bed and chair alarms, and staying within arm's reach when moving around.
• Demonstrate compassionate bedside manner and provide meaningful care in a fast-paced hospital setting.
