Job summary

IU Health seeks a bedside Patient Care Technician (PCA) to deliver exceptional patient experiences by anticipating needs—providing drinks, assisting with meals, encouraging mobility, helping with baths, and supplying clean linens.

The PCA supports the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs, reporting changes, and maintaining patient safety with gait belts and alarms. This role requires compassion, a calm bedside manner, strong communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Must have current Basic Life Support certification (AHA) or pursue through IU Health PCA program.
• Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served.
• Proficiency in infection control principles.
• Ability to manage high workload with interruptions while maintaining patient safety.

Responsibilities

• As a bedside caregiver, provide drinks and assist with meal ordering and movement.
• Encourage walking and assist with baths and linen changes.
• Provide clean linens and gowns and maintain patient comfort.
• Obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to the RN or charge nurse.
