Job summary

GBMC HealthCare seeks a Hospice Aide to provide specific aspects of patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The aide delivers personal care, assists with meals, bathing, and daily activities per the Plan of Care.

The candidate will work under general supervision, using handheld devices and electronic documentation, with a focus on compassionate patient support and safety. A HS diploma, CNA certification, and Maryland licensure are required, plus a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Hospice Philosophy.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage issues related to death and dying.
• Ability to work independently.
• Able to communicate effectively with facility staff when assigned to facility-based care.
• Familiar with handheld communication devices and electronic documentation.
• Demonstrates empathy for patients, families, and caregivers.

Responsibilities

• Attend to patient/family requests promptly and provide personal care (baths, grooming, feeding) as assigned.
• Ensure safety and proper use of equipment.
• Plan and assist in preparing nutritious meals as directed.
• Record vital signs when ordered (subject to training).
• Monitor skin condition and prevent tissue breakdown.
• Report changes to the supervising nurse and coordinate with caregivers.
• Assist in ambulation and simple exercises as instructed.
• Support light laundry and maintain a clean, orderly living area.
• Provide respite for patient/family when on-site.
