Qualifications

• Must have completed a state-approved training and competency evaluation program and be in good standing with the state nurse registry.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care.
• Self-directing with the ability to work with little supervision.
• Empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired.
• Must possess and maintain CPR certification.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and access to an automobile.
• The home health aide will not perform nursing tasks such as administering medications or taking physician orders.

Responsibilities

• Providing personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linens.
• Assisting patients with dressing and undressing; nail and skin care.
• Assisting with toileting; keeping living areas clean and orderly.
• Planning and preparing nutritious meals; assisting in feeding when necessary.
• Taking and recording temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure as ordered.
• Assisting in ambulation and exercise per care plan.
• Performing range of motion and related procedures as ordered.
• Assisting patient in self-administration of medications.
• Doing patient’s laundry as appropriate.
• Meeting safety needs and using equipment properly.
• Reporting patient condition and changes to the assigned nurse.
• Adhering to documentation and care standards in policies.
