Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a Minnesota Community Relations Intern role designed for current students. You will support stakeholder engagement, research, project coordination, and administrative tasks across the state, collaborating with Community Relations Managers serving diverse municipalities and organizations.

The internship provides exposure to local government relations, economic development, and utility operations, with opportunities to travel and gain hands-on experience in public affairs.

Qualifications

• Current student and full-time summer availability.
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or related field.
• Ability and willingness to travel across Minnesota to support Community Relations activities.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) in-person per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist with updating and maintaining city, county, township, tribal nation, school district, economic development, and community organization contact databases.
• Support scheduling and coordination of meetings, community outreach events, and local government engagements.
• Conduct research on municipalities, local government initiatives, and community trends impacting Company operations.
• Assist Managers with briefing materials, presentations, agendas, and stakeholder profiles.
• Support tracking and organization of permits, franchise agreements, and community projects.
