Job summary

Xcel Energy in Wisconsin is seeking a summer Community Relations Internship to support engagement with local communities, nonprofits, and government partners. You will gain hands-on experience in stakeholder engagement, workforce development, and social investment initiatives.

The role supports coordination of events, research, and communications efforts, with a hybrid work arrangement and the potential to extend based on performance.

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher.
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Political Science.
• Local travel.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate community engagement activities by supporting local events, partnerships, and outreach with nonprofits, chambers, and community organizations.
• Assist with foundation and volunteer programs, including tracking employee volunteerism and supporting grant and giving initiatives.
• Conduct research and prepare briefings on community needs, economic development opportunities, and key stakeholder priorities.
• Support communications efforts by drafting materials, assisting with media/event logistics, and helping ensure clear, consistent messaging.
• Help manage stakeholder relationships by coordinating meetings, maintaining contact lists, and supporting engagement with local leaders and partners.
