Job summary

Xcel Energy in Wisconsin invites students to join its community relations internship, gaining hands-on experience across stakeholder engagement, workforce development, and social investment efforts. You’ll support coordinating events, nonprofit partnerships, research on local initiatives, and communications work.

This summer internship runs with a May 24, 2027 start date, up to 40 hours per week, and a hybrid work arrangement requiring in-person attendance at the designated location.

Qualifications

• Currently a student, Sophomore or higher.
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or Political Science.
• Local travel required.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours per week) and commute to the designated work location in-person per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate community engagement activities by supporting local events, partnerships, and outreach with nonprofits, chambers, and community organizations.
• Assist with foundation and volunteer programs, including tracking employee volunteerism and supporting grant and giving initiatives.
• Conduct research and prepare briefings on community needs, economic development opportunities, and key stakeholder priorities.
• Support communications efforts by drafting materials, assisting with media/event logistics, and helping ensure clear, consistent messaging.
• Help manage stakeholder relationships by coordinating meetings, maintaining contact lists, and supporting engagement with local leaders and partners.
