Job summary

Xcel Energy in Minnesota seeks a Community Relations Intern to support stakeholder engagement, research, and project coordination across the state. You will work with Community Relations Managers serving municipalities, counties, and nonprofits, maintaining contact databases and coordinating meetings and outreach efforts.

The role offers exposure to local government relations, economic development, and utility operations, with a May 24, 2027 start date and potential extension based on

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher pursuing a relevant degree.
• Travel to communities across Minnesota may be required.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) and commute in-person per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Assist with updating and maintaining city, county, township, tribal nation, school district, economic development, and community organization contact databases.
• Support scheduling and coordination of meetings, community outreach events, facility tours, stakeholder briefings, and local government engagements.
• Conduct research on municipalities, local government initiatives, economic development opportunities, legislative issues, and community trends impacting Company operations.
• Assist Community Relations Managers with briefing materials, presentations, meeting agendas, stakeholder profiles, and follow-up documentation.
• Support tracking and organization of permits, franchise agreements, community projects, and territory initiatives.
• Assist with special projects and administrative support activities to improve operational efficiency across Minnesota Community Relations.
