Job summary

Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) is seeking a Community Recreation Assistant at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, VA. You will help run MWR programs, special events, rentals, library services and outdoor recreation with a focus on friendly customer service and accurate record-keeping.

You will process registrations, handle payments, manage inventory, and assist in staff coordination and outreach while maintaining safety and adherence to Navy MWR policies.

Qualifications

• Combination of experience related to customer service and recreation activity functions.
• Ability to organize, plan, administer special events and entertainment activities.
• Must be able to work independently, make sound decisions and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of goals, principles, techniques and procedures used in organizing, planning and conducting leisure time activities.
• Knowledge of Navy MWR mission and scope of Community Recreation activities.
• Knowledge of recreation activity procedures and operations.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to maintain records, compile data for reports, and perform research on recreation topics.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of computers, office procedures and print production.

Responsibilities

• Provides customer service, information and support for Community Recreation programs and activities.
• Collects fees from customers for tickets, retail items, classes, trips and programs using POS.
• Maintains daily sales accuracy and completes a DAR at each shift.
• Assists in processing Internet registrations and event sign-ups.
• Checks in/out equipment, collects rental fees, inventories items and inspects on return.
• Notifies supervisor of damage or loss; ensures forms are completed and procedures followed.
• Conducts inventory and maintains equipment for accountability.
• Assists in administering workshops, clinics and events in various leisure areas.
• Supports day-to-day administration of multiple programs and data entry.
• Assists with recruitment, training and scheduling of staff; supports outreach and publicity.
