Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Water Resources / Stormwater Engineer for our Oakland or Walnut Creek offices. You will work on flood risk, stormwater, and coastal resilience projects, collaborating with coastal engineering teams and partners. 5–10+ years of experience is required; EIT is required with CA P.E. licensure preferred.

The role involves modeling, analyses, reports, and coordination with regulatory agencies, with some travel to support project delivery across Northern California.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required.
• 5–10+ years of water resources/stormwater management experience.
• EIT is required; CA P.E. licensure via reciprocity within 6 months is preferred.
• CFM certification is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, regulatory permitting, and flood resilience.

Responsibilities

• Performs and oversees numerical modelling and engineering calculations for flood risk, system capacity, and drainage performance.
• Supports analyses of storm surge, tidal flooding, rainfall-driven flooding, and sea level rise.
• Prepares plans, specifications, and cost estimates for flood risk management and coastal resilience projects.
• Develops hydrologic, hydraulic, and hydrodynamic models (1D/2D, urban drainage, coastal).
• Prepares technical memos and presentations to document analyses for internal teams and clients.
• Leads technical coordination with project teams, GIS, vendors, and regulators.
• Travels as needed to support project delivery.
