Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol seeks a mid-level Coastal Engineer focused on waterfront climate resilience to join our Northern California team, in Walnut Creek or Oakland (preferred).

You will contribute to climate risk assessments, RSAP development, and nature-based solutions, while interfacing with regulators and clients to advance coastal projects and proposals in a dynamic, growth-oriented practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Coastal, Civil or Environmental Engineering from an accredited university
• FE exam or Engineer-in-Training certification required
• California PE license or reciprocity preferred
• 5–10 years of coastal engineering climate adaptation experience
• Experience with tides, wave mechanics, sea level rise and sediment transport
• Strong planning, scheduling and budgeting abilities
• Regulatory agency familiarity in SF Bay Area
• Proficient in ArcGIS and MS Office tools
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Willingness to travel across the Bay Area and Central California
• Background check and U.S. work eligibility required

Responsibilities

• Prepare coastal climate impact and risk assessments and develop technical solutions
• Develop Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plans (RSAP)
• Support design of nature-based solutions such as living shorelines
• Engage in community presentations and technical workshops
• Interface with regulatory agencies and project leaders
• Assist or act as PM to prepare scopes of work and budgets
• Coordinate with clients to manage expectations and delivery
• Collaborate with staff and subconsultants on priorities
• Contribute to proposals and marketing efforts
• Track SB1 grants and regulatory compliance
