Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Water Resources / Stormwater Engineer in Charleston, SC with 8–15 years of experience. The role involves flood risk analysis, coastal resilience planning, and stormwater design across municipal and federal projects, with travel to support delivery.

The candidate will work with hydrologic and hydraulic models (1D/2D) and a national practice team, contributing to technical studies, client deliverables, and regulatory coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • 8 to 15 years of experience of water resources / stormwater management
  • Professional Engineer licensure is required; with the ability to obtain in the State of South Carolina via reciprocity within 6 months of hire
  • Background in floodplain management, coastal resilience, and stormwater/drainage design

Responsibilities

  • Performs and oversees numerical modelling and engineering calculations to evaluate flood risk, system capacity, pump and outfall performance, and mitigation alternatives under existing and future conditions
  • Supports and guides analyses related to storm surge, tidal flooding, rainfall-driven flooding, and sea level rise
  • Prepares and oversees engineering analyses, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for flood risk management, coastal resilience, stormwater, and drainage projects
  • Develops hydrologic, hydraulic, and hydrodynamic models (1D/2D) for urban and coastal systems
  • Prepares technical memoranda, reports, and presentation materials to document analyses
  • Leads coordination with project team members, GIS, and regulatory agencies
  • Works with clients to align projects with regulatory requirements for floodplain and coastal permitting
  • Assists in feasibility analyses, scope definitions, and cost proposals
  • Coordinates cross-office delivery and travel as needed
