Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Clinical Nursing Student for Med-Surg at West Hospital. The student provides direct patient care under the guidance of the RN, gaining clinical experience through shadowing and delegated nursing tasks.

Requirements include HS/GED and enrollment in a nursing program with at least one clinical course and rotation. BLS is preferred, with opportunities for education and development within a faith-based health system.

Qualifications

• HS/GED is required.
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
• BLS certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the RN, supports the nurse in applying the nursing process.
• Develops critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care.
• Provides basic patient care including care and comfort, vital signs, hygiene, mobility.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns.
• Delivers high level customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff.
• Documents accurately and timely for patient care.
• Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information on arrival and departure.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency is validated.
• Participates in data collection and documentation (vital signs, intake/output).
• Aids in activities of daily living (ambulation, feeding, hydration, toileting).
• Utilizes clinical technology as applicable.
• Escalates concerns through the chain of command.
